What is Speech Pathology?

Speech and Language Pathologists are healthcare professionals who specialise in diagnosing and treating communication disorders.

This can include difficulties with speaking, listening, understanding language, reading, writing, social skills, stuttering, and using voice.

Working With You

At Well Balanced Care, we work closely with children and adults who experience speech and language difficulties because of developmental disorders, brain injuries, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, dementia, and hearing loss.

Our Speech Pathologists will assess the type and severity of the difficulties experienced.

They will then develop a specific plan in partnership with the person to improve communication skills, including the use of technology or other ways to communicate.

Working together, our speech pathologists can significantly impact a person’s quality of life and support in achieving their goals.

Swallowing Food

Speech Pathologists also work with those who experience difficulties swallowing food and drinking safely with the aim of improving their independence and quality of life. They will:

Identify the areas in which the person needs assistance

Develop a plan to address these difficulties

Provide support and guidance to help the person overcome their difficulties

Keep up to date with all our latest news and see what we are up to when visiting the communities we service.
