Rachel Saunders

Occupational Therapist

Rachel enjoys working across cultures and supporting them to achieve their health and wellbeing goals.

Rachel is an Occupational Therapist who transitioned into health after many years as a self‑employed hairdresser and business owner. She has two adult children and recently relocated from New Zealand to Australia. She is enjoying settling into Cairns and looks forward to exploring Far North Queensland.

Rachel graduated with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 2022, having been drawn to the profession for its holistic approach to health. She values working with the whole person, considering not only physical health but also lifestyle, meaningful occupations, and the environments in which people live and work.

Rachel has recently completed a postgraduate certificate in rehabilitation, which included formal study in trauma‑informed care. Her professional experience spans women’s advocacy within Women’s Refuge, acute mental health services, vocational rehabilitation, and, most recently, working as a wheelchair and seating therapist supporting people with complex needs.

Rachel enjoys working across cultures and prides herself on meeting people where they are, supporting them to achieve their health and wellbeing goals. She strongly believes in each person’s capacity for change, regardless of circumstance. She has a particular interest in working with individuals with intellectual disability, people who experience communication challenges, and those receiving palliative care, following her experience supporting clients with life‑limiting conditions.
